Less Ads for Loyal Visitors
I’m currently testing my new plugin that check whether current visitor is a frequent reader / loyal visitor or not. The plugin has been activated on MOSTS and is based on the visitor’s pageviews within specific days. Frequent readers will get less AdSense ads on the index page and single post page.
The idea for this plugin is coming from Perfomancing (http://performancing.com/node/136). The different, that article describes loyal visitor as a visitor who visit our post as soon as it published.
My thoughts are this; If a user is coming in 2 days late to a post, and is not logged in, they’re most likely from a search engine referal (you could even code that logic into it pretty easily using just the USER_AGENT string) and thus, they’re far less likely to become a regular reader than someone coming in from a link from another site.
As I said above, I took a different perception for “visitor loyality”. I describe loyal visitor as a visitor who visit several pages of my site frequently.

Alright, I thought you’ll be counting how many times certain IP address have visited your site within certain amount of time.
If you use this method, you’ll have problems because a lot of ISP in Indonesia uses transparent proxy.
I’m sure this plugin will be quite popular with website looking to retain their loyal visitors by giving them bonuses.
(but of course, you’ll need to be able to find out who are your loyal visitors first)

Actually I’m just using cookies for the current implementation :P and i’m sure this would make some problems too since not all visitors enable their cookies setting. But in my first experiment I just want to see whether this loyality concept would affect my stats or not (either visitors or earning). I don’t mind losing a few bucks in exchange with several loyal visitors :)
yup, i still need help to figure out the right definition for “loyal visitor” :) I know that the pageviews method that I’m currently using is not perfect (or maybe not even the correct one) and I’ll keep trying to find a better method.
wah edan kalau bisa seperti itu. jadi pengunjung tetap hanya di beri sedikit tampilan iklan ya. kalau bisa seperti itu sih memang berguna banget, jadi pengunjung tetap kita tidak lari karena web kita isinya iklan melulu, hehehehehe
